Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers are used throughout the school. Different grade levels and teachers use volunteers in a variety of ways; needs vary by grade level. Some volunteering opportunities are listed below: CHIRP Children Independently Reading to Parents - listening to students read one-on-one. Classroom Help classroom teachers with preparing materials: copying, bulletin boards, other activities as needed. Tutor Work with students in various grades to review addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts. Review materials for tests, help with tests. Field Trips Help chaperone field trips. Lunchroom Supervise students in the cafeteria during lunch along with classroom teachers - about 45 minutes. Playground Supervise students on the playground during noon recess - about 30 minutes. Picture Person Present works of art to students in classroom. Training provided to assist in presentation. Career Sharing Speak to students in the First Grade about your work: demonstrate tools, materials. Can Recycling Help with can recycling about three weekends a year (Saturday or Sunday). Candy Sale Assist with orders during late January or early February. Marathon This is held the first Saturday in October. Help work the Food Booth, preparing and selling food items; help count funds after the event; make calls to gather prizes. Catholic Schools Week The last week of January. Help serve coffee and cookies after Masses, plan teacher appreciation activities, or give tours of the school to new families. Book Fair Held in November around fall conferences. Assist with set up, decorations, answering questions for students and parents, read to students, as well as assist with sales. EXTRA This is an enrichment program for "high potential" students in Grades 2-5. Training is provided and units have lesson plans already developed. Each unit lasts about six weeks and is typically taught during school hours. Uniform Exchange During mid August, organize uniforms according to size, etc. for the exchange. Gather clothes up after the exchange and repack, sort out any items not usable. Office Help Answers phones as needed, run copies, etc. Must be available during the school day. School Store Help with ordering, stocking, and selling items to students twice a month during school hours. Santa Shop This is usually at the end of November or early December. Help with set up, selling items to students, and wrapping gifts. Some help is needed for purchasing/ordering items, and organizing volunteers. Seventh Grade Play Help with costumes and sets. Field Day Help supervise outdoor games with the students. |
